Street Culture

Street culture is a dynamic and vibrant expression of life in urban environments, reflecting the creativity, resilience, and diversity of its people. A significant part of this culture includes street vendors, who are vital to the economic and social fabric of cities worldwide. Street vendors create a lively atmosphere, offering everything from food and fresh produce to art and niche merchandise. They serve as bridges between communities, uniting people through shared experiences of flavors, crafts, and stories.
Creating the video on Street Vendors, centered around the theme "Create and Unite," for our Mass Media Studies subject was a deeply enriching experience. Our journey took us to various bustling streets and markets, where we engaged with a diverse group of vendors. We spoke with food vendors, fruit sellers, and even jewellery and anime merchamdise vendors, each sharing their unique stories and perspectives. The process began with extensive planning and research to understand the challenges and triumphs these vendors face daily. This foundation allowed us to approach each interview with empathy and curiosity, ensuring that we captured the authentic voices of our subjects. The food vendors shared their secret recipes and the love they pour into their dishes, while the fruit sellers spoke of the challenging work involved in sourcing and selling fresh produce. The jewellery and anime vendors added a creative flair to our video, highlighting how they bring art and culture to the streets. Interviewing the vendors was both challenging and rewarding. We navigated language barriers, scheduling conflicts, and the busy nature of their work. However, these interactions gave us a profound appreciation for the resilience and creativity that street vendors embody. Editing the footage into a cohesive narrative was equally rewarding, as we aimed to highlight the unity and diversity within this vibrant community. Overall, the project not only honed our technical skills in video production but also deepened our understanding of the social and economic fabric of our city. It was a powerful reminder of how media can bring people together and shine a light on the often-overlooked contributors to our daily lives.
