1. Description of "Our Community"
Local Community: Kolkata, the City of Joy, is a vibrant cultural epicenter celebrated for its rich artistic heritage, literary brilliance and intellectual dynamism. The city is known for its enthusiastic approach towards festivals and traditions. Despite the multiplicity of communities that dwell here, the city projects a picture of sheer harmony and joy.
In Kolkata, you find solace, peace and even your true calling. Whether it be the city’s community celebration of Durga Puja like a close-knit family, or the Anglo-Indian community in Bow Barracks decorating their homes on Christmas to show the world their culture still lives, the Potter community of Kumartuli toiling in the sun to give the world the exquisite ceramic pots and beautiful clay idols or the fishermen in Babughat working all day to catch fishes which define the city's cuisine.
Kolkata has almost different worlds within itself, and you see them blend when we celebrate. Be it a cricket match or the FIFA World Cup, you will always find a lane decorated with flags, which might not even belong to our own country! Such is the passion here and such are the lives we lead. The city has a poetic dialect and warm people. And it all culminates to create the foundation of our Home.
At Lakshmipat Singhania Academy (LSA) we learn to interact with local communities and celebrate each of them. It is a true privilege to witness the co-existence of such varied and rich cultures, and LSA not only helps us recognize its importance but also encourages us to help those communities.
Together, we aim to bring change for those who live near our homes as well as our hearts. In our project the community that we have focused on is the businesses that have originated from Kolkata, West Bengal, India.

5. Problems We Had To Overcome
The team was very excited about this project right from the start. However, we did face certain obstacles. The biggest challenge was to get appointments with the industrialists for interviews. Home bakers were initially very shy to appear on screen and speak about the work they do, as well. Nevertheless, as the theme of International CyberFair 2025 says – Create and Unite - as a team we have been able to create beautiful opportunities for many and bring together families for an important cause.
6. Our Project Sound Bite
In line with the theme for International CyberFair 2025 – Create and Unite, everyone involved in this project learned the basics of running a business. In addition, the ground reality that these businesses create a lot of employment opportunities and help many households in their livelihood, was a groundbreaking discovery for the team.
7. How did your activities and research for this International Schools CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
Through this project, the entire team learned about the various Business Organisations and how they have been able to generate employment opportunities successfully, for many, over the years. This project was skillfully designed as a part of the curriculum and involved community members like grandparents, parents, teachers, peers and renowned industrialists. The usage of the internet was immense, as many interviews were conducted using online platforms. Local store visits were also conducted to understand the day-to-day functioning of the businesses.
1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?
For our CyberFair project, we employed a diverse range of tools and technologies to ensure its success. Our toolkit encompassed everything from traditional computers to visits to shops and industries. Here is how we utilized these resources:
-
PCs and Laptops: These were indispensable for conducting research, organizing data, and editing videos. They served as our primary workstations throughout the project.
-
Applications: We leveraged a variety of applications such as Google Drive, Zoom, YouTube, Google Meet, Facebook and Video Editor. These platforms facilitated seamless information sharing, virtual meetings, video compilation and editing.
-
Interviews: Conducting interviews was a cornerstone of our project, serving as our primary source of information. This method allowed us to gather firsthand insights and perspectives about our topic.
-
Audio-Visual Equipment: Devices like microphones and headphones were essential for ensuring clear communication and effective dialogue delivery during interviews. Cameras were utilized for recording visuals, while smartphones aided in additional research and project-related activities.
-
Scanner: The device is used to scan all No Objection letters, feedback from the participants and the viewers.
-
Google Search Engine: As a ubiquitous information tool, Google Search proved invaluable for accessing a vast array of online resources and information relevant to our projec
In essence, our CyberFair project benefited immensely from the strategic integration of various technologies and tools, enabling us to conduct thorough research, create engaging content, and effectively communicate our findings to our audience.
2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.
Students are always excited to participate at the International CyberFair because of its international presence, and the opportunity to reconnect with the roots and interact with important personalities. The students researched well to create the list of people they wanted to interview. They also attended literary fests to network, find channels of contact and establish communication. They were able to successfully arrange interviews - either in-person or online - to further add to their research.
For any academic institution, parents are a great source of wealth. Their presence motivates all involved in the project. In this edition of CyberFair, the parents teamed with the students to bring out some of the best productions. Indeed, this is truly a project of creating and collaborating together.
The guests were extremely happy to know that the students are working on this topic for a prestigious competition. Their focus was to help this young bunch of people to go back to Literature and know the rich heritage of it.
3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?
Realizing that your web site may not have been up very long, describe how your involvement in this project has strengthened the "relationship" between your school and your local community, or describe the anticipated impact your project will have in the future.
Through this project the students have been able to connect and collaborate with professionals, industry giants, parents, grandparents, cousins and relatives, teachers, professionals and their peers. The videos uploaded on our website show the rich variety in community connection.
4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?
Through this initiative the students would like to thank the teachers for their constant help, family members for their guidance and reputed professionals for their time and knowledge.
This project would have been incomplete without the help of –
Owners of business organisations (names mentioned in the Bibliography)
Local shops and business centers
5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)
The theme of International CyberFair 2025 is Create and Unite. Every part of our project walked on the road that generates employment opportunities and unites families from different strata of the society. Through our project we have been able to interview individuals ranging from a businessman who owns a swanky office to a roadside vendor who has been running his cart for years and a housewife who has just tasted the success of earning her own money.
